We are accepting new recruits into the unit! Should you be interested in portraying the 2nd SS soldaten in a reenactment environment, please e-mail our Commanding Officer, Tim Fonger, with your basic contact information, a little about yourself, and any experience you have in the hobby already. We generally accept members only from our local area (Michigan, Indiana, Ohio, and Western New York) to help all persons in our unit attend centralized events, but can direct you elsewhere should you live farther away.
As we've stated elsewhere, we are not political Nazis, and therefore will not accept into our ranks any person with political agendas or aims to glorify the Nazi party.
Basic Conditions for Membership:
Must be 18 years old, or have a parent willing to join with if a minor.
Event organizers will not insure minors without a present responsible party. Current members will not act in this capacity for underage recruits.Must have some semblance of physical fitness.
There is no PT test require to join, but reenacting is a physically demanding hobby. Members must often carry 30+ lbs. of gear, and walk/run for hours at a time. Additionally, many of our events are held in the Summer, when warm temperatures combine with wool uniforms and physical exertion. Food and water can be unreliable during tactical events. Ensure you're up for the demands of reenacting!Understand the cost of your basic kit.
While we have some loaner gear, a recruit is responsible for procuring his own basic uniform and field gear (as listed on our equipment page), as well as an approved weapon. The basics run about $1000. Additional items, extra uniforms, and weapons are tremendously more expensive than the basics. We will not supply new members with items for more than an event or two..Get into the community!
Plain and simple: we're buddies. The unit is looking for like-minded people to join us in the field and on our couches. All members are expected to have the common awareness of needed work at camp and beyond, and pull their weights in completing basic necessary tasks. We don't ask more than anyone can give, but effort is required to be expended by everyone. This includes supply runs, tending camp, etc.
Potential members are encouraged to attend one of our upcoming events as a spectator. If you do indeed wish to join, and your probationary membership is approved, you will receive a copy of the unit's handbook to familiarize yourself with our tactics and policies.
New members are expected to have the Basic Enlisted Kit upon the commencement of their membership in the unit. Recruits will start out with a six-month probationary period, during which they will receive a mentor to guide them in their education and acquisition of gear. All persons joining the unit will start out as a "Schütze" in our Infantry Regiment; following completion of your probation and final acceptance, members can choose to refine their specialty impression as positions become available.
Keep in mind that is unit in an independent, private organization that reserves the right to deny membership to any person, for any reason we deem necessary. We will not accept into our ranks any persons whose conduct is defamatory to our reputation.
